El Paso County deputy killed on duty, officers searching for suspect

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was killed on the job on Sunday. The office reported about Deputy Andrew Peery’s death at 8:07 p.m. He was assassinated.

The sheriff’s office issued an open advisory regarding police activity between Grand Boulevard and Ponderosa Drive in Security-Widefield at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Furthermore, officials advised citizens to lock their doors and windows and safeguard their houses.

Following the fatal shooting, ESPO issued a shelter-in-place order for the vicinity of Ponderosa Drive and Grand Boulevard.
The sheriff’s office said shortly after the incident that it was actively hunting for John Paz, 33, a Hispanic guy accused of the killing.
